Questions seniors ask us most
Can a senior really get a free laptop?
Yes. Adults 18 and older living in California — including seniors — can be considered for a free refurbished Chromebook after completing our free 8-week digital literacy course. There is no cost at any point and the device is yours to keep.
Is there an age limit?
There is no upper age limit. Many of our participants are 60, 70, or older, and the lessons are written so that no prior computer experience is assumed.
What if I have never used a computer before?
That is exactly who Week 1 is for. It begins with turning a computer on, using a mouse and keyboard, and understanding files and folders. Lessons are short and you can repeat them as often as you want.
Do I need a computer to take the course?
No. You can complete lessons on a phone, a tablet, or a library computer. The device comes after you finish.
How much time does it take?
Roughly one to two hours a week for eight weeks — 36 short self-paced lessons. There are no deadlines within a week and no live attendance requirement.
Is there someone I can talk to if I get stuck?
Yes. Every participant has a coach they can reach, plus an AI tutor available at any hour. San Francisco cohorts also include live support sessions.
Do I have to pay anything for shipping or activation?
No. If any program asks you for a payment or a gift card to release a free laptop, it is a scam. We never ask for payment.
